Your questions, answered
Open a question to read the answer.
Which residency category fits my situation?
Your income, investment, family connections, and intended activities determine the options available. Send us a brief description of your situation so we can identify what needs to be reviewed.
How much will my application cost?
Costs depend on the category, number of applicants, legal services, government charges, and document expenses. Request a written proposal that separates legal fees from government and third-party costs.
How long does the process take?
Timing depends on document preparation, the category, the completeness of the application, and Immigration’s workload. Ask for a current estimate for your circumstances; approval and delivery of the DIMEX card are separate stages.
Can I begin while outside Costa Rica?
You can begin eligibility review and foreign document preparation from abroad. We help you identify which steps require local appointments or coordination in Costa Rica.
What documents will I need?
The list depends on your category and personal history. Common documents include a passport, birth certificate, criminal background certificate, and evidence of eligibility. Confirm your checklist before ordering documents.
Do foreign documents need an apostille?
Foreign documents need the authentication appropriate to the issuing country and document. This can be an apostille or a legalization process. Documents issued in another language also require an accepted Spanish translation.
Can my family apply with me?
Eligible spouses and dependent children can apply under qualifying categories. Each person’s eligibility, documents, and expenses must be reviewed separately.
Will I need CAJA after approval?
CAJA insurance is an important post-approval requirement for residents. Your applicable insurance classification and assessment determine your obligations and contribution.
Does residency allow me to work?
Work permission depends on your category and authorization. Confirm your proposed employment or business activity before assuming that a residency approval permits it.
